About Me

My name is Samantha Emerson, and I'm a freshman at Albion College in Albion, MI. Here, I am pursuing a pre-PA education and majoring in Kinesiology and minoring in Biology. Although I have only been here for one school year, I have gained multiple rewarding experiences, such as becoming a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Beta chapter, finishing my first semester at college with a 4.0, and taking multiple rigorous classes that will prepare me for my future as a healthcare provider, such as Cell and Molecular Biology, Structure and Equilibrium, Intro to Healthcare, and Athletic Injury and Prevention.

After my undergraduate schooling at Albion, I plan on attending PA school and eventually working as a PA at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I consider myself a precise, studious, compassionate, and outgoing person, and I think I would do very well as a PA at a children's hospital as highly-praised as C.S. Mott's.

Before Albion College, I attended South Lyon East High School in South Lyon, Michigan. Throughout high school, I had the amazing opportunities to run cross country, play lacrosse, and most importantly, discover my interest in becoming a healthcare provider.

In terms of what I like to do in my free time, I love the outdoors and spending time with other people. During the summer, I spend most of my time upnorth at my family's lake cottage on Hubbard Lake doing a variety of fun activities, such as kayaking, paddle-boarding, swimming, boating, and hiking. In the cooler months, I really enjoy just spending time with friends and family doing everyday things, like going out to eat, shopping, playing with my dog, watching movies, and going for walks.

Over the course of my school career, I have developed many skills that I think would be beneficial for my career as a PA. First of all, I've learned to become a very studious, determined person, which has helped me maintain straight A's every year since 6th grade. These are traits that I intend to carry into the workplace; not only will they help me do my job better, but they will also make my job and other people's jobs easier. In addition, I have a lot of experience working with Microsoft Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Excel due to my Journalism, Desktop Publishing, and MS User 1 classes. This would be helpful for any computer work that needs to be done at the hospital. Also, I've developed a deep understanding for proper grammar and punctuation, and have even been deemed a "grammar Nazi" by my peers (as a joke of course). This might be beneficial if any piece of writing needs to be typed or edited at work.
